Greetings all! Its been a long time James and Amber! You guys stuck in the snow somewhere? Life is the same over here in Belgium. Went to a party at Pam and Mike Portland's last night. Iguana Dominican cigars all around! (Remember our cigars in the back yard just before you guys left Belgium??) Craig Larsen was there and so we did some planning. I will be going with him and a few other guys to Dublin for St Paddy's Day! Should be a Guinness-filled few days! I can then compare the Paddy parade in Dublin to the one in NYC. Arsenal kicked ass yesterday, 4-1 vs. Boro. Off to see La Louviere play next weekend before they are relegated. Mons and Charleroi seem to be joining them! Walloon soccer sucks!!! Everything is well and life remains good in Belgium! Keep in touch!

The icy air bit the back of my throat as I left my house this morning. I glanced at the giant thermometer looming over our tiny mountain town. Our version of a water tower I suppose, only it mostly serves as a local beacon helping many a lost skiier find their way down. Two degrees it read. Two fucking degrees.
Should I even be outside? How long does it actually take to lose your fingers in this? I ball up my hands a little deeper in my mittens and begin my assent towards the summit shuttle stop. Its eight o'clock in the morning and Im not sure wether the sun has come up yet or if theres just not going to be any sun at all today. The snow crunches under foot on our plowed road as my boots carry me closer to my destiny in weather that can kill.
Bus stop....bus stop....bus stop....becomes my mantra as a bird drops out of the sky, frozen before me. I hear a rumbling in the distance. Avalanche security dynamiting again. On the news last night a family died in their cabin after being crushed beneath thousands of tons of gods cold fury. I often question what the hell am I doing here. Hailing from sunny Southern California I was looking for adventure. The adventure of the Pacific Northwest. Inuits and glaciers and moose and sledding. It seemed so romantic, so exciting to me. A primal sort of existance, surviving against all odds. Instead I find a ski resort, an early morning trek to the shuttle stop, and isolation amongst thousands of teenage Microsoft offspring.
And this snow. This constant never ending blanket of deadly white. Its as irritating as beach sand in your underwear. Its everywhere I go. Mussing my hair, soaking my clothes as I enter a heated area. Men walk about with icy mustaches that resemble snot coming out of there noses. No, snow is not sexy, or romantic. It is cold. Two degrees cold. And I am tired of this mountain.
